University of Wyoming Residence Hall
The University of Wyoming Residence Hall project was a large-scale, multi-system flooring installation spanning two buildings and requiring extensive coordination across multiple trades, schedules, and material types.
The project consisted of a six-story North Tower, which includes residence halls on each level and a two-story dining facility, and a five-story South Tower comprised entirely of residence halls. The flooring scope encompassed nearly every area of both buildings, including student rooms, common areas, bathrooms, kitchens, and back-of-house service spaces.
At peak production, the project required approximately 50 installers on site simultaneously, with an average daily workforce of approximately 24 installers distributed across four specialized divisions: Tile, Altro, Epoxy, and CPT/LVT. Careful coordination of manpower, sequencing, and quality control across these specialties was essential to maintaining progress and installation consistency.
The two-story dining facility represented one of the most complex areas of the project. This space included:
- Over 30,000 square feet of floor tile, utilizing six distinct floor tile selections
- More than 12,000 square feet of wall tile, incorporating seventeen different wall tile selections
- Over 25,000 square feet of Altro slip-resistant flooring installed in back-of-house kitchen and service areas, selected for durability and safety in commercial food service environments
- Approximately 16,000 square yards of carpet installed in associated dining and support spaces
The residence halls, while more repetitive in layout, presented significant technical challenges, particularly within the bathroom areas. Bathroom floors utilized a seven-layer epoxy flooring system, requiring an eight-day installation process per bathroom to meet performance and cure requirements. This system was installed across approximately 13,000 square feet and was closely coordinated with adjacent wall tile assemblies.
Additional flooring scope within the residence halls included:
- 100,000 square feet of LVT installed in student rooms
- 25,000 square feet of carpet in common and lounge areas
- 50,000 square feet of bathroom wall tile, integrated with the epoxy flooring system to ensure long-term durability and waterproofing
The original project schedule anticipated a July 2024 start; however, due to external delays, installation began in October 2024. Despite the adjusted timeline and sequencing challenges, the project achieved substantial completion in October 2025 through phased scheduling, proactive coordination, and workforce flexibility.
In total, the project represented a $6 million flooring package, requiring precise execution across multiple systems and building types. The successful completion of this project reflects the team’s ability to manage scale, complexity, and technical requirements while maintaining quality and schedule performance.
